Soham Town Rangers secure top-scorer Sam Mulready's signature, plus Lloyd Groves to stay and Matt Allan returns from Godmanchester Rovers
Soham Town Rangers have confirmed that last season's top-scorer Sam Mulready will stay at the Bostik League North club for the 2019/20 season.
The striker was vital to the Step 4 club's successful relegation fight, netting 23 goals in all competitions for the club.
His performances led to him being named both Manager's and Supporter's Player of the Year at the end of season awards.
It is understood the player, who made 37 appearances for Soham last term, had interest from elsewhere but has now committed to the Julius Martin Lane club for another season.
His goal tally also saw him into fifth position in the league's top scorer table last season, with 21 league goals.
The club have this week begun to sign players for next season, with the signing of former Green Matt Allan and a player-coach role for fan-favourite Lloyd Groves already.
Groves previously played for the club in the 2016/17 season, when he cemented his place in the fans' hearts with a late winner on the final day of the season to ensure the club escaped relegation and remained at Step 4.
He left for neighbours Newmarket Town but, ultimately, returned to the Julius Martin Lane club for the 2018/19 season, on dual registration from St Ives Town.
The defender made 29 appearances for Soham last term, scoring two goals and providing one assist – winning 10 games.
Lloyd, a UEFA B qualified coach, said: “I’m delighted to be carrying on with Soham for next season. I love playing for the club and the people there as some would say it’s a home from home.
“My loyalties lie with Robbie (Mason, manager) and Erkan (Okay, assistant(, as they have allowed me the freedom to combine my coaching with playing and it’s that reason I have chosen to stay."
Meanwhile, Matt Allan will also be a name familiar to the Town faithful, having spent a short spell at the Lane in the 2017/18 season – scoring five goals in 11 appearances.
Allan arrives from Godmanchester Rovers, where he scored 15 goals in 41 appearances for the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side last term.
A number of players have departed the club, with former Haverhill Rovers striker Mark Lovell moving to Newmarket Town, Lewis Endacott has hung up his boots to take on a manager role with Royston Town Reserves while Alfie Connor, who made 35 appearances last season, has signed with St Neots Town.
