National League side Mildenhall Fen Tigers re-sign Danny Ayres for the 2019 season

Fresh from the weekend's successful takeover, the Mildenhall Fen Tigers have confirmed that Danny Ayres will return next season as number one.

It was announced on Saturday evening that the West Row club had been purchased by a consortium fronted by club commercial manager Lee Chipchase and local farmer Greg Palmer.

Chipchase revealed that the rider line-up for 2019 would be announced in the near future, with the first of those now being revealed as Ayres.

The former Newmarket College pupil made himself a favourite of the supporters last term, which ended early after he suffered a broken hand.

"Last season was so good in so many ways and in my opinion if we hadn't suffered all those injuries at the end we would have won the league," Ayres wrote on his website.

"We had an awesome time with all the youngsters in the side but in the end it wasn't to be but that has gone now and I'm excited for the new season.

"The club is under new management and I hear the plans for the club are exciting and the side they are putting together is another good one.

"I'm really pleased to be back as I live locally and love the fans at the club. Let's hope we can have a good season."
