Newmarket Town teams rack up five wins between them during weekend to remember
Newmarket Town Ladies manager Craig Boneham believes there is plenty more to come from his side over the coming weeks and months.
Following a 1-0 Eastern Region Women’s Football League Division One North defeat to Histon last time out, the Jockeys returned to winning ways on Sunday with a come-from-behind 4-3 win over East Bergholt United.
Boneham’s team were three goals down after 47 minutes but they responded in impressive fashion, grabbing the victory thanks a hat-trick from Annabel Cuthbert and a goal courtesy of October’s Player of the Month Chloe Slater.
It was a result that sealed Newmarket’s progress beyond the group phase of the League Cup, and sets them up nicely for Sunday’s home clash against top-of-the-table Cambridge City Ladies Development (2pm).
“We were 3-0 down early in the second half but in terms of performance we did not deserve that, we were just punished for our mistakes,” said Boneham. “The team kept calm and our fitness really told towards the end which is pleasing.
“Everyone is playing well at the moment but I do not feel we have reached our potential yet.
“There is plenty more to come from the team and that is really exciting.”
* Jordanne Sillitoe marked her Newmarket Town Ladies Development debut with two goals in the 3-2 win over Deeping United.
Talia Irvine also found the back of the net for Shane Lebbon’s team.
* Four goals from Kaitlin Elsey helped Newmarket Town Under-16 Girls to record a 6-2 victory from their trip to Peterborough Northern Star.
Kayleigh Peters weighed in with a brace for Newmarket, who are up to second.
* Rachel Nash-Roberts (2), Katie Spiers and Anneka McFarland all scored in Newmarket Town Under-15 Girls’ 5-3 triumph over Eynesbury Rovers.
* Newmarket Town Under-13 Girls beat Milton 6-1 with goals from Eadie Brooker (2), Millie Hilario (2), Tilly-Ann Crotty and Cerys Bithall.
