West Suffolk Hospital confirms death of sixteenth patient with coronavirus




A patient with coronavirus at West Suffolk Hospital has died.

The patient was in their 70s and had underlying health conditions.

Dr Nick Jenkins, medical director for West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patient’s family and loved ones at this difficult time."

It takes the total number of coronavirus related deaths at the hospital in Bury St Edmunds to 16. In the East of England, 1,156 people have died with Covid-19.

Today the UK government revealed 778 more deaths across the country, taking the total to 12,107 hospital deaths since the crisis started last month.

The Office of National Statistics has said more than one in five deaths in England and Wales are related to coronavirus.

Data from the organisation released today showed the virus was mentioned in 3,475 death certificates in the week ending April 3.
