A man has died and a woman was injured after a car collided with a block of flats in Bury St Edmunds.
Police were called at 10.30am to reports of the incident, in Out Risbygate on the corner of Spring Lane.
The fire service, which sent two crews, evacuated the building involved and the road remains closed but is expected to reopen shortly.
The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the female passenger was taken to West Suffolk Hospital for treatment,
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said her condition is ‘not believed to be serious’.
They sent a rapid response vehicle, ambulance crew, two ambulance officers and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
Early reports indicated the car had caught fire but this was not the case.
Witnesses should call the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101 quoting reference CAD 102 of 21/3.
