Two people have died following 'multiple explosions' at a village bungalow which has partially collapsed.

Four fire engines including three from Newmarket and one from Haverhill attended the incident at the detached bungalow, in The Street, Lidgate, after being called at 12.05pm.

This afternoon a spokesman for Suffolk Police said they were called just before 12.15pm following reports of a 'possible gas explosion'.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue said two people were 'unaccounted for'.

Tonight, a Suffolk Police spokesman said two people have died and they were called following reports of 'multiple explosions' at the property.

He added: "The building has sustained significant structural damage and utility companies have attended the area to ensure the safety of residents.

"The cause of the explosions is currently unknown and a joint police and fire investigation into this incident is now taking place."
