Two arrested in connection with suspected arson attack in Soham




Two people have been arrested in connection with a suspected arson attack in Soham.

In the early hours of Saturday two bungalows in Queensway were engulfed by flames, destroying the terraced houses.

After an initial investigation, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue said it believed the blaze was started deliberately.

Cambridgeshire Police have now arrested a 37-year-old woman from Fordham and a 31-year-old man from Soham on suspicion of arson.

The pair have since been bailed to return to a police station on June 10.

More than 25 firefighters, including crews from Burwell, Soham and Newmarket battled the blaze at the bungalows for more than five hours.

Residents escaped from the blaze unhurt, and a nearby resident described the fire as "terrifying".

The blaze, which is believed to have started in the right bungalow soon spread to its neighbouring house on the left.
