Newmarket man seriously injured in crash at Exning last night

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision on Cemetery Hill at Exning last night, Monday August 10, in which a Newmarket man was injured.

Officers were called just before 9.30pm to reports of a collision between a 4x4 vehicle and a motorcycle. Fire and ambulance personnel also attended.

The rider of the BMW motorcycle – a 59-year-old man from Newmarket – was trapped under the Mitsubishi L200 before being freed at being taken to Addenbrookes Hospital. He is believed to have sustained a number of broken ribs, a wound to his shoulder and possible internal injuries that are being assessed.

The road was closed while the man was freed and an initial investigation got underway at the scene, but this was re-opened around 2am.

It appears the motorcycle was being ridden from Exning towards Newmarket at the time of the collision, with the Mitsubishi heading in the opposite direction.

Police are keen to speak to anyone to may have seen either vehicle prior to the incident or anyone who saw the crash. If you can help please call PC Joseph Skippen at Bury St Edmunds Roads Policing Unit by dialling Suffolk Police on 101, quoting CAD 450 of August 10.
