Town council backs Sunday bus trial

Town councillors have agreed to make a one-off grant of £1,000 to support a pilot Sunday bus scheme between Cambridge, Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds.

The scheme which is also being funded by Suffolk County Council will be run by the Voluntary Network using a 16-seater mini bus.

Approximate timings include a 10am service to Cambridge with the last bus returning from the city at 3pm.

Cllr Chris O’Neill said he was concerned about spending public funds to take people out of the town but mayor Cllr John Berry said: “This is something people feel strongly about and I think it would be £1,000 well spent if it showed we were keen to support it.”
