Revised plan for West Row homes is given go-ahead
The latest version of a plan for 138 new homes in West Row was approved by Forest Heath’s Development Control Committee yesterday,
An application for the site off Beeches Road was first made in November 2014 and has been subject to objections from across the village and protest meetings.
The applicants, the Waters family, Suffolk County Council and Pigeon Investment, put in a revised hybrid application asking for full permission for 41 homes with an access to Beeches Road via the old White Horse pub site, plus outline permissions for 90 built homes and seven self-build houses.
The plans include 1.91 hectares of public open space, 1.9 hectares of landscaping and 4.46 hectares of retained agricultural land for ecological mitigation.
The plan was referred to the committee because one of the applicants is related to council leader James Waters and because it is contrary to Forest Heath’s Development Plan.
However, officers recommended approval.
The 41 properties include 12 affordable homes.
The officers’ report said there were no objections from environmental experts. The Suffolk Highways had no objection but said the Queensway junction in Mildenhall was already at capacity and called for the developers to pay a proportion of the cost of traffic lights there.
Suffolk County Council and the NHS are also asking for Section 106 contributions to public services totalling £832,516 in addition to the Queensway junction money and £5,000 over five years for travel plan evaluation.
But Mildenhall Town Council still objected with concerns over an access opposite West Row Primary School, infrastructure, highways and parking levels on the site.
