Children at St Louis Catholic Academy have also been doing their bit for the Nepal earthquake victims.

They have raised over £378 by drawing a map of Nepal in the school playground then covering it with cash.

The idea came from the school’s student council, who were moved by the suffering of the victims they saw on the media reports from the disaster-struck country.

Their concerns were given greater relevance when they found out that their school had a particular connection with the country.

A spokeswoman for the school said: “One of our teachers, her husband’s family lives in Nepal.

“That is why the school council wanted to raise money for this.

“Thankfully the family are all safe.”

The two-metre long map was created by children at the school, in Fordham Road, Newmarket, on May 6.

The teachers supervised the pupils while they placed the coins and there was a big pot for notes in the middle.

They then collected up the proceeds.

The money will go to CAFOD which is the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development.
