Police search Soham fields looking for man wanted for burglary and vehicle theft

A man wanted for burglary and vehicle theft escaped police today after a police hunt in Soham proved unsuccessful.

At least four police cars and a dog handling squad was seen near fields just off the A142 in Soham at about 10am, looking for the wanted 22-year-old man.

Eyewitnesses reported officers searching through fields just off the busy bypass with a dog trying to find the man, and others reported increased police activity in Soham.

Suffolk Police were leading the search, and a spokesman said the suspect was seen driving near Newmarket earlier today.

“Police received a report of a known suspect driving a vehicle on the A14 in the Newmarket area this morning who is wanted in connection with burglary and theft of a vehicle," the spokesman said.

"Officers conducted initial enquiries and searches but were unable to locate this vehicle or suspect at this time.”
