Planning approval for 10 traveller pitches has confirmed by councillors after officers made further investigations.

On February 1, Forest Heath’s Development Control Committee decided to go against officers’ recommendations for the site north of Lodge Farm in Skeltons Drove, Beck Row. They decided they were ‘minded to approve’, so officers had to report to Wednesday’s meeting on the likely impact of approval.

Councillors wanted to approve it because it was near two existing traveller sites, they felt there was ‘a lack of harm’ from it and the parish council had backed it.

Beck Row Parish Council praised the way the applicants had improved the area and officers accepted that the site may stop fly tipping which had plagued Skeltons Drove, but they still criticised the site’s visual impact and warned against setting a precedent.
