Mildenhall’s first open gardens in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind raised nearly £1,500 last Sunday.
Organiser Martin King, pictured in his garden, said: “I know a guy involved with the Guide Dogs and I like my garden so I said, ‘why not open our gardens?’
“We were very lucky with the weather because it rained in the morning and it rain a couple of hour after we closed.”
He said six gardens were open and about 110 visitors attended and the £1,493 total was boosted by a cake stall and a £300 donation from a late Bury St Edmunds couple who wanted a bequest to go to a dog charity.
Martin added: “We’ll probably do it again and get more gardens involved.”
