Kirtling dog owner desperate for news of her 'stolen' lurcher Ludi

A Kirtling dog owner is desperate for news of her pet which she believes has been stolen by a man pretending it belonged to him.

Di Haine’s lurcher bitch Ludi went missing when she was out walking with her owner in the village at around 2pm on Friday.

When a search of the area drew a blank, Mrs Haine’s friend put up messages on village social media sites appealing for information leading to the dog’s safe return. As a result, a woman from Wickhambrook posted that she had picked the dog up and it was safe at her house.

“I rang her number only to be told that a man had been to her house that evening and said the dog was his and the woman handed her over,” said Mrs Haine.

She has reported the incident to Cambridgeshire police.

“The woman who caught her had no reason to doubt the man was Ludi’s owner,” said Mrs Haine, “but he had obviously seen the post on social media and decided to take the dog.

“Because of the type of dog she is I am sure she has been taken possibly for use in illegal hare coursing and I can’t see her surviving very long if that is the case.”
