James has signed up to save in Anglian Water's Newmarket-centred Greenredeem scheme




Anglian Water’s Greenredeem rewards scheme is well under way, with residents around the Newmarket area signing up to save water and earn rewards.

Among the first to sign up were James and Michelle Hotchkiss, who went online to join the scheme after receiving a card through their letterbox like many other residents in the Reach and Swaffham Prior area.

The couple were already ‘signed up’ to water saving after becoming involved with Anglian Water’s Love Every Drop campaign and visiting the pop-up shop in Newmarket High Street.

James, 37, said: “We were already doing things to save water – turning off the tap while brushing our teeth, following the ‘if it’s yellow, let it mellow’ rule when it comes to flushing the toilet and washing the car once a fortnight instead of weekly – so the Greenredeem scheme is reinforcing that plus coming up with some new tips.

“It’s made us really aware of how much water we use.”

James said they had also noticed a reduction in their water bills. “They’ve been gradually going down and down,” he said.

As well as enjoying lower bills, the couple have also been collecting Greenredeem reward points by watching videos, taking quizzes and making water-saving pledges on the Greenredeem website.

They’ve converted some of their points into vouchers to exchange at Burwell’s Elk Espresso Café.

“That’s the nice thing about the scheme – there are lots of local offers,” said James. “All money off is good.”

As well as the local offers, rewards can be redeemed with national companies, used to enter a monthly prize draw or donated towards a charity.
