Green-fingered talent is sought

A scheme to unearth Newmarket’s next generation of gardeners has been launched.

Up to two places are up for grabs on a 12-month training course led by Homebase and award-winning garden designer Adam Frost.

The Garden Academy course, open to ages 16 and over, teaches people about garden planning, design, planting and landscaping. Students will be given their own set of gardening tools, a netbook to record a video diary and will work towards earning accreditation from the Royal Horticultural Society.

There are 24 places available nationwide on the scheme that is running in 36 stores. If chosen Newmarket residents will be stationed at the branch in Oaks Drive to gain practical experience and offered a job if they complete the training period to a satisfactory standard. Apply before June 15 at
