Racing fans who visit Newmarket for its annual stables open weekend later this year are in for a real treat.

Last night Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin Racing operation announced it would, for the first time, be opening its Moulton Paddocks and Godolphin Stables, formerly Stanley House to the public as part of the event.

Sara Cumani. chairman of the Newmarket Weekend Committee, said proceeds from this year’s event would go to Racing Welfare, the National Horseracing Museum and the ‘flying doctor’ emergency service Magpas.

The past three stables’ open days have raised around £135,000 for charity.

As well as many of the town’s stables opening their doors to visitors on Sunday, September 20, there will be special events at the races the day before and a two-day food festival, showcasing a host of culinary delights from the area. “My own personal hope is that the community and racing come together to make this a very special weekend for the town,” said Mrs Cumani
