German-style market set to come to Newmarket's memorial hall at Taste of Christmas event

A town council is putting the finishing touches on hosting its first German-style market in Newmarket next weekend.

On Saturday Newmarket Town Council will open its memorial hall gardens for its Taste of Christmas event.

Between 11am and 6pm on December 14 the gardens, behind the memorial hall, are set to be transformed into a scenic winter wonderland with traditional alpine huts selling locally sourced food and drink, handcrafted gifts and a free carousel for children.

At the German-style market visitors will be spoiled for choice for food, with it promising to warm up hungry stomachs with Bratwursts, mince pies, churros, and festive twists on popular favourites.

And entertainment will include candlelit Christmas carols sung by Newmarket's Community Choir, surprise dance routines and dance school T3, and professional fire dancers Divine Fire Show.

Santa Claus will also be making an appearance to the memorial gardens with his helpful elf in his new wheelchair-friendly sleigh.

For those wanting to meet Santa, he will be hosting a meet and greet between 11am and 1pm, and then again between 2pm and 5pm.
