Firefighters stop Burwell blaze spreading to other houses




More than 35 firefighters fought a house fire in Burwell yesterday, stopping the blaze from spreading to neighbouring homes.

At about 8.20am crews were called to a terraced house in the village's Bayfield Drive, where the roof was on fire.

Police vehicles and an ambulance were also at the scene, but there were not thought to be any casualties.

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "Crews arrived to find a well-developed fire in the rood of a house that was spreading to two neighbouring properties.

"Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used three hose reels to extinguish the fire before returning to their stations by 12.55pm."

Crews from Newmarket, Burwell, Cambridge, Haverhill and Bury St Edmunds attended.
