Charity marathon effort is family affair

A Bottisham family have raised nearly £1,700 for the Arthur Rank Hospice as part of a family marathon challenge.

Graham and Julia Darling of Spring Close, ran the Manchester Marathon on April 19, finishing in four hours six minutess and four hours 31 minutes respectively.

A week later it was the turn of their son and daughter Chris, 20, and Sophie, 23, both former pupils of Bottisham Village College, who lined up in the London Marathon.

Chris, who is studying physical education and school sport at Sheffield Hallam University, finished in two hours 35, which ranked him number one in the UK in his age group.

His sister, a physiotherapist, finished in a time of three hours 15, putting her seventh in her age group. “It has been an amazing couple of weeks for us all,” said Graham.

“We set out the challenge at the end of last year and it was a fantastic feeling when we all finished our marathons.

“We all felt tremendous pressure to keep fit and train extremely hard so as to not let the rest of the family down,” he said.
