Ramraiders stole £5,000 worth of gardening equipment from a Mildenhall business last night, causing tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage as they smashed their way in.

At about midnight a gang drove a 4x4 towards C W Kirk Lawnmowers Mildenhall store, in Chiswick Avenue, smashing through a window and part of its wall.

Dramatic CCTV footage shows masked men running into the store, picking up chainsaws and strimmers, and loading them into a getaway car outside.

After about only two minutes the gang escaped, leaving the Ford Maverick behind.

Today business owner Charlie Kirk has warned people if they are offered discounted chainsaws, they could be stolen.

"They knew exactly what they were looking for and only took these items when there are other items in the showroom that were more expensive," he said.

"An estimated £5,000 worth of equipment was stolen and extensive damage was done to the front of the building and equipment that was in the showroom. The approximate cost of damages about £40,000."
