Two women had to be cut out of their cars after a crash just outside Newmarket last night.

At about 7pm emergency services were called after two cars collided on the A1303 and Swaffham Heath Road junction.

Two fire crews from Newmarket and one from Cottenham attended the scene, along with Cambridgeshire Police, ambulance crews and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

The two women were trapped in their cars for about an hour as fire crews worked on cutting them free.

One had abdominal and pelvic injuries and the other had chest injuries. Both were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, by land ambulance.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman described the injuries as 'serious but not life threatening'.
