Part of a silver buckle found at Lakenheath was an example of medieval recycling, an inquest has heard.

The find was made by Chris Clarke in April last year and was confirmed by experts at the British Museum so being part of a buckle plate dating from the late 5th or early 6th century AD.

The plate was decorated with a scroll design and had initially been difficult to identify.

Declaring the plate as treasure, Suffolk Coroner Dr Peter Dean said: “This was early medieval recycling.”
