A game at a social evening in Wickhambrook brought Leslie and Sylvia King together and yesterday they celebrated their Diamond wedding.
Sylvia, 79, and Leslie, 81, met after playing a game in which the men chose the girl of their choice from across the room. Leslie winked at Sylvia and she was ‘taken for his wife.’
When Leslie went to do National Service Sylvia wrote to him every day and when he returned home they were engaged and married in Stansfield Church.
Leslie worked for 22 years at Robert Hall’s Farm in Barrow and 20 years at Hall Farm in Fornham St Martin.
Before her marriage Sylvia worked at the silk factories in Glemsford and Sudbury and at Greene King for 18 months. She later worked for 15 years at Marks & Spencer in Bury. The couple enjoy sequence dancing and moved to Barrow 17 years ago.
Sylvia said: “We’ve had a good life, have a good family and couldn’t wish for anything more.”
They have two children, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren,
