Mildenhall will be getting its own ‘birthday party’ as part of an Arts Council funded project aimed at areas that have ‘fewer opportunities to get involved with the arts’.
The arts group Market Place will be throwing the part in the town centre on July 9 and invites people to cut the cake, unveil the Mildenhall bunting, sing songs and ‘plot and scheme future creative mischief’.
They will be joined by the puppeteer Ronnie Le Drew who was Zippy in Rainbow, a regular in Sooty and Sweep and who has worked with David Bowie in Labyrinth and Michael Caine in The Muppet Christmas Carol.
But in the run up to the event will bring a series of ‘artistic interventions’.
On July 2 from 10.30am to 2.30pm you can explore Mildenhall’s hidden places and stories through an Arts Trail with roaming musicians, a live band, ukulele, accordion, craft makers, storytellers and ‘story-foragers’ with a poetry take-out, body art and face painting. The activities will run throughout the centre of town.
The next day from 2pm – 7pm there is a Sunday Crafternoon at Mildenhall Social Club with local and visiting artists. Learn new craft skills with like-minded folk and help prepare hand-made gifts for Mildenhall Birthday party.
The Crafternoon will morph into a Singers’ Circle at 5pm for sharing stories and songs so take along a tune or just join in.
From July 4 to 8, final preparations will be made and musicians will work with community groups to get in the mood for the party.
