An armed man attempted to rob a Newmarket travel agent at lunch time today,
He went into Premier Travel’s office in The Guineas shopping centre at around 1.20am wielding a knife and demanding cash. All the staff managed to get out and the man was locked in a back room as lunchtime shoppers crowded round before police arrived.
A tense stand off following during which police officers were warning the man might have a firearm. He came out of the front of the shop at around 1.50pm when he was tasered by officers and then treated on the ground before being taken away. The shopping centre has been cordoned off and is
likely to be closed for a few hours.
Esme Burden, communications executive for Premier Travel. “We can confirm that all our staff are safe and well following the incident and that no one was harmed in any way.”
