This spring, screen print collective Off The Press are working alongside Abbeygate Cinema to bring an exciting new project to Bury St Edmunds, entitled The Big Screen.

In November 2015 the team at Off The Press approached 19 artists to begin designing an art work based upon the film that changed their life, these would then be made into limited edition screen prints in their Suffolk based studio.

The artists involved range from commercial graphic designers and recent university graduates to children’s book illustrators and fine artists. The works that have resulted from the project show this with a diverse mix of approaches and styles.

Children’s illustrator Toby Rampton brings to life a character from the 1973 film American Graffiti, whilst printmaker Jo Stafford visualises the verbal exchange between Peter and Rufio in the hit film Hook.

Other timeless classics that have been given a new lease of life include Star Wars, Amelie, The Wicker Man and Kes.

The only guidelines that Off The Press gave to their talented group of artists were that it had to be A3 and the colours to be used were red and black. This was to make sure that all 19 works would sit within the same portfolio that would be on display from the 18 March 2016 in a leading independent cinema.

Off The Press are comprised of printmaker James Treadaway, textile artist Anna Bird and graphic designer Sam Foley. They first started working as a collective in late 2015 and have since begun to make a name for themselves by producing bespoke hand printed materials for businesses. This is their first project that mixes both their individual talents as well as a love of film.
