Sounds Like the Live Sessions returned to Bury St Edmunds venue the Hunter Club on February 9.

The latest edition of the quickly growing Sounds Like the Live Sessions welcomed Bury-based darlings Tundra and Huckleberry Harrison.

Tundra opened proceedings, taking their usual bouncy surf-punk and flipping it on its head. It’s been said that punk rock is a fairly restrictive genre; Tundra prove that’s is not the case tonight, slowing everything down to create a much moodier atmosphere in their usually fun loving songs. It was fan favourite Irish House Mafia that was a particular standout, incorporating elements of reggae and ska, almost echoing influence of punk rock greats The Clash. Bassist Elliot Booth was a particular standout. It has been argued that it is hard to create interesting soundscapes in a three-piece band, Booth proves this is not the case, often taking over melodic lead lines while keeping a steady bassline down.

Headliners Huckleberry Harrison followed. Playing as a full band with frontman – Sam Harrison swapping out his electric guitar for an acoustic.

Huckleberry Harrison bring something fresh to the Bury music scene. Blending dream pop-sounding guitar lines with traditional indie song structures, Huckleberry Harrison truly are building themselves into a force to be reckoned with. Obvious comparisons are drawn with Canadian indie sensation Mac Demarco, in not just the music, but also Harrison’s delivery and somewhat eccentric style as a frontman. Particular highlights from the set included the surf influenced Dracula, a lovesong set to the theme of the supernatural. However, it was Harrison’s final song that really caught ears around the room. Sending the rest of his band away, frontman Harrison sang a heartfelt ode to a friend, Louis, who is currently travelling the world. Harrison pined: “Louis come home,” with emotion that will not quickly be forgotten.
