EXCITEMENT is building among the promotion team behind the Mildenhall Fen Tigers after the club was awarded the 2012 National League Pairs final.

Following Thursday’s National League AGM in Warwick, the Suffolk side were handed the prestigious meeting, which was run at Newport last year, following the Welsh club’s withdrawal from the 2012 National League.

As an additional bonus, the club was also chosen to stage the opening round of the British Youth Championships.

“Everybody at the AGM was 100 per cent behind us on getting the National League Pairs final,” said co-promoter Chris Louis.

“It was quite nice to see that all the hard work we made last year such a success story has been rewarded. With all the top riders in the league doing battle in the pairs it promises to be one entertaining meeting.

“Being given the opening round of the British Youth Championships was important for us as we as a club are all about trying to promote young British speedway riders.

“We plan to put on a big event and give the kids the chance to have a feel of just what it is like to be a top speedway rider.”

Earlier this week, the club announced they would kick off their season on Sunday, April 8, with the opening leg of the National Shield against the Dudley Heathens.

“Riding against Dudley is a brilliant opening meeting for us,” said Louis. “I see them as being one of the favourites for the league as they have strengthened their side over the winter and I am sure the clash will be ultra competitive.

“It is a great chance for us to get some early silverware on board.”

Following Thursday’s AGM, it was also confirmed the Tigers will begin the defence of their National League Knockout Cup against local rivals the King’s Lynn Young Stars, while also becoming one of four stand alone clubs forming the revived National League Trophy.

Fans will be able to meet members of the 2012 Mildenhall Fen Tigers team on Saturday, February 18, for a meet the riders event at Mildenhall Stadium’s Fenman bar. Starting at 7pm, the event costs £3 per adult, with children under 15 admitted free.
