ELY City boss Alan Alsop has labelled his side’s efforts on Saturday as one of their worst of the season.

After being held to a draw by fourth-placed Dereham Town seven days earlier, the Unwin Ground outfit once again had to be content with a share of the spoils in a game lacking clear-cut chances.

Along with dropping two valuable points in their push for the title, City also saw midfielder Stuart Walker carried off after dislocating his knee in the first half, and Kenny Smith receive his marching orders after picking up two bookings.

“We were awful,” said Alsop. “It was probably some of the worst football we have played this season.

“They put 11 men behind the ball and we couldn’t break them down. It was a dour and boring game.

“The referee did not help he was shocking for both sides.

“Although we have come away with one point the three were there for the taking.”

City will face their sternest test at the Unwin Ground to date on Saturday in their bid to keep their unbeaten home league record in tact when taking on league leaders Wroxham.

Missing goalkeeper Lee Pacey through suspension, the Robins could also be without Smith and Nick Impey, both of whom are struggling with injury, along with top goalscorer Richard Chadwick, who is recovering from flu.

“We are looking forward to Saturday’s clash, but it would be great if I had a full-strength team to pick from,” added Alsop.

“If we play like we did Saturday we will be beaten comprehensively so we have to make sure we are on top of our game if we want to get the three points.”
