Unbeaten Malc does double
DIESEL Malc maintained his 100 per cent around Mildenhall after taking his second open race win in as many visits to the Suffolk track.
Competing in the day’s feature race over 545m, the Mick Fawsitt-trained runner faced stiff competition from Mays Rocknroller, Smooth Ace and top local runner Smooth Nation.
An electric start from Diesel Malc saw him turn the first bend two lengths clear of Smooth Nation with them positioned for a terrific back straight tussle.
Despite the Mark Newberry-trained youngster getting within half-a-length of the last year’s Coral Olympic hero around the last bend, it was as close as he was to get off the last bend as Diesel Malc stamped his authority to power clear to the line to win by one and a quarter lengths.
The maiden 545m was won by Enid Gowlers Seathwaite Champ who led at the second bend and held on grimly by a head in a moderate 34.82secs.
The card also had two 375m maiden races with division one being won by Eric Cantillion’s top class Irish import Blackrosemustang, with division two going the way of Pretty Chilly.
On the graded front, the notable performance was a double success for new license holder Sandra Clayton, who won the A4 event with Aranock Top 23.77s and Hovex Polly in the A6 in 23.91s.
On Friday, the big money event of the night was the GBGB funded £500 bonus series final for A5 runners.
The race had the look of being scrappy as no wide runners made it through to the final and this proved to be the case with some serious second bend scrimmaging that saw Jenny March’s Precious Heart slip clear to win unchallenged in 24.09s.
Performance of the night went to the Gary Vass trained Blonde Playboy who flew from the traps and outclassed his rivals in the A3 in a very fast 23.23s.
Another popular winner was Graham Page’s five-and-a-half-year-old veteran of 99 races Blonde Bliss who rolled back the years to win an A7 in 24.51s to the loudest cheers of the night.
Fellow veteran performer Blackrose Mark from the Anne Kirby kennel, who was having his 100th career outing bounced back to form to win a 545m event by three and a half lengths in a respectable 35.15s.
Away from the track it was announced over the weekend that leading Mildenhall trainer Eric Cantillion has decided to move his string from Mildenhall to Henlow.
