Soham made to pay for missed chances in defeat

RYMAN LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE NORTH

Thamesmead Town 4

Soham Town Rangers 0

SOHAM Town Rangers stretched their winless run in the league to three matches after being soundly beaten by mid-table Thamesmead Town.

After going close to turning over third-placed Needham Market seven days earlier an unchanged Rangers outfit were soundly beaten by the Bayliss Avenue outfit.

Taking time to warm to the game Soham slowly started to have the better of the possession and chances.

Andy Furnell and Ben Seymour-Shove had a couple of half chances, while Martin Bromwich placed narrowly wide of the far post from all of 35-yards and Danny Moore, who moments later was replaced after suffering a facial injury in the incident, blocked a powerful goal bound strike from David Cobb.

Thamesmead made the visitors pay for their missed chances with two goals in as many minutes.

Joseph Afusi doubled the hosts’ lead in the 39th minute when his low long-range shot squirmed under Bircham and in at the near post, before Daniel Kerrigan made it 3-0 two minutes later.

Both sides created chances after the interval, but nothing to really test either shot stopper.

Dan Cotton put over from a free-kick before Bircham pushed over a shot in a one-on-one situation.

Thamesmead wrapped up the win by adding a fourth deep into injury time, with Afusi, doubling his tally for the afternoon, after seeing his low drive escape the clutches of Bircham, handing the hosts their first win in five matches.
