Soham earn local bragging rights

SOHAM secured their first win in four attempts as they easily overcame local rivals Mildenhall 3-0 in the Ridgeons Premier League on Saturday.

A second-half double from Darren Jimson and a Charles Libam strike 10 minutes from time gave Ian Benjamin's side all three points at Recreation Way.

The win keeps Soham, who lost substitute Martin McNeil to a straight red card after 60 minutes, top of the table, 11 points clear of Wroxham, who moved into second place with a 1-0 victory over Felixstowe.

At the other end of the table, Newmarket Town moved off the bottom with a hard-fought 1-1 draw away at Harwich and Parkeston.

Mark Angel gave Karl Johnson's men the lead from the penalty spot in the seventh minute, before the home side equalised in the 27th minute thanks to a penalty of their own.

In Division One, Ely City were not in action at the weekend as Tiptree United gained promotion with a 2-0 win over Great Yarmouth.
