WITH this crushing defeat of the team placed third in the league Newmarket demonstrated that they will not allow their progress in the RFU Vase to distract them from the target of a second promotion in three seasons.

If the visitors entered the game with hopes of upsetting Newmarket these were quickly dispelled as the home side tore into Woodbridge, the pack dominating possession and the back line orchestrated by Liam Cocks testing the defence, with the game less than ten minutes old Newmarket opened the scoring.

Cocks made a half break, Ali Walker made further inroads before shipping the ball on to fellow back row Raymond Richardson who beat the final defender to score in the corner. Mike Reeves converted.
