Quartet make the grade

FOUR members of Burwell Karate Club have been celebrating after successfully coming through a graduation ceremony.

Earlier this month, group instructor Jason Andrews, along with club members Steve Andrews, Daniel Nunn and Lianne Crockford, travelled to Birmingham to take part in the gruelling six-hour session.

Throughout the marathon programme, each pupil had to perform a variety of different techniques, including sparring and KATA moves, which is a type of forms.

For both Jason and Steve Andrews, it was a case of passing their third dan black belts, Nunn his second dan black belt and Crockford her first dan black belt mark.

“It was a long day but all in all it is a fine achievement for the club,” said Jason Andrews.

The club currently meet at Burwell Village College on Tuesdays, with sessions taking place between 7.15pm-8.15pm for juniors and 8.15pm-9.30pm for adults.

The club also runs sessions on Sunday’s at the Gardiner Memorial Hall with junior coaching running between 10am-11am and adult coaching between 11am-12.30pm.
