Nick’s wait was worthwhile

IT MAY have been a long time in coming, but Nick Littmoden has finally had something to cheer about after sending out his first two winners from his new Dullingham yard.

Since switching to Brook Farm from Newmarket’s Southgate Stables back in June, the 49 year old has undergone some near misses in his quest to saddle a winner from his new base.

But all that changed on Thursday when Muhandis, partnered by Chris Catlin, came with a storming late run to land the spoils on the line in a Class Six seven furlong handicap at Wolverhampton.

“It is great to finally get a winner from the new yard,” said Littmoden. “We knew that Muhandis was very capable but he had just taking a bit of working with to get him right.

“The time before he had run well at Lingfiled and we knew if he could equal or better that form he would go close.”

Two days later Littmoden, who has been all-weather champion trainer on five occasions, was back in the winners’ enclosure, this time at Lingfield Park, after four year old Cut Across made the perfect start to his career by claiming a Class Five maiden on the card under Steve Drowne.

“Cut Across did well to win as he was a bit green,” added Littmoden. “He looks to have a lot of improvement in him. We may give him one or two more runs on the all weather, but we could just wait for the turf season to start as he looks like developing into a useful horse.”
