Martial arts: UK championships

FIVE students from the Mid Anglia School of Tae Kwon Do will be travelling to Crawley on Saturday to compete in the UK Tae-Kwon-Do English Championships.

Leading the charge for the club based at New Astley Club, Newmarket will be reigning 57kg junior black belt sparring champion Sean Berry.

The Newmarket College pupil, who will also be competing in the black belt junior pattern contest, will be looking to add to last year's win with victory in the 63kg and under black belt sparring contest.

Fellow Mid Anglia fighter Eleanor Dobson will be bidding for a repeat performance in the veterans event after taking a bronze in the sparring contest last year.

The third dan black belt will also be competing in the veterans' patterns event.

In the under 145cm blue belt competition George Renshaw Fox will be searching for medals in the sparring, patterns and power test events.

Completing the quintet is the Lakenheath duo of Braydon Dobbs and Havilar Higgins.

Dobbs will be competing in the junior green belt under 145cm sparring, patterns and power test events while Higgins will take part in the junior yellow belt 155cm and under sparring, patterns and power test disciplines.
