Late leveller rocks Rangers’ victory plan

RYMAN LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE NORTH

Soham Town Rangers 2

Needham Market 2

LEE McGlone’s header five minutes from time denied Soham Town Rangers from completing a league double over play-off chasing Needham Market.

Just as it looked like Rangers were to grab their second three points over the Marketmen former Leiston hitman McGlone popped up to score his first goal since arriving at the club.

Rangers were punished for a poor start with Bradley Barber putting the visitors in front after just 10 minutes. Soham player manager Andy Furnell proved he still has plenty to offer on the pitch when levelling up matters heading home Dan Cotton’s free-kick just after the half-hour-mark.

Furnell was to double his tally, and his side’s lead with 14 minutes left on the clock when firing home a left-footed shot from six yards out.

Any hopes of Furnell’s second effort proving to be the match winner were dashed with McGlone showing his goal scoring instinct to snatch a late leveller and salvage a point for the visitors.

“The first 20 minutes we were shocking but come the end of the game I was disappointed as I felt we should have won,” said Furnell.

“There are not many teams who will take four points off Needham this season and on reflection a point against them at the end of the day is not a bad result.”

Rangers will hope for better fortunes on Saturday when taking on mid-table Thamesmead Town.
