Juniors give a dominant show

Newmarket Cycle and Traithlon Club’s cycle hill climb season is now well under way, with Newmarket junior Ross Birkett the overall winner on Primrose Hill, Moulton, in an annual inter-club event between Newmarket, Ely and Mildenhall.

Birkett stopped the clock in 1min 40.72secs, still some way shy of the 1.34.2 record set by Max Pendleton in 1973.

Newmarket juniors also took the next three places overall with Lewis Stevens just pipping Tom Bicknell by half a second and Max Sahota coming through in fourth.

Highlighting the strength in depth of Newmarket’s junior riders, Daniel Blocksage and Jack Lowther were also well placed — eighth and 15th overall respectively.
