HORSERACING: Presvis warms up for world cup

LUCA Cumani's Presvis will put his Dubai World Cup credentials on the line this afternoon when taking part in the Al Tayer Motors Trophy in Meydan, Dubai.

The six year old, who was last seen finishing third to Vision D'Etat in the Hong Kong Cup at Sha Tin in December, will take on just three rivals in the 55,000 one mile two furlong event.

Charlie Henson, assistant trainer to Luca Cumani, said: "If we are going to aim him at the $10million Dubai World Cup we need to prove he handles the conditions and what better way to do that than in a race over the course and distance.

He seems to be comfortable on it in the mornings and it would be great to be able to target the inaugural Meydan Dubai World Cup."

Fellow Newmarket trainers Marco Botti and David Simcock will be hoping to hit the jackpot in the day's richest prize the 74,000 the Group Three Cape Verdi for Fillies and Mares.

Trillium Place handler Simcock hopes rest on four year old Ahla Wasahl, who claimed the Listed Rosemary Stakes at Ascot in October, while Botti will be looking for a good run from dual Group Three winner Soneva, who makes her debut for the stable. The in-form Godolphin team will also be represented in the race by former John Oxx inmate Aspectoflove.

Last night the Godolphin team enjoyed a 54/1 treble.

Getting the ball rolling on the new Tapeta surface was 7/2 shot Global City in the Dubai International Innovation Trophy Handicap.

Leg two was followed up less than 40 minutes later when the Frankie Dettori-ridden Alexdranos came home a cosy three-and-a-half length winner of the Group 3 Al Rashidya on the turf at odds of 7/4.

The treble was complete in the one mile six furlong Dubai International Trophy Handicap when 7/2 shot Age Of Reason, partnered by Dettori, got up close home to deny the Kieren Fallon ridden Titurel.
