GREYHOUNDS: Adageo is Mark's main hope for success

GREYHOUND Derby finalist Adageo will bid to give three times champion trainer Mark Wallis more category one success when lining up in the first round heats of the Champion Stakes at Romford tomorrow.

The Droopys Vieri dog is set to be joined in the 10,000 competition by kennel mates Dalcash Scolari, Bourne Masons, All That Noise, Directors Spur, Eye Onthe Tempo and Romford track specialist Goldies Destiny.

"Adageo will certainly be our main hope. Since the Derby final he has had five races around the 575m trip at Romford picking up three wins in the process.

"We did get invited to take part in the Select Stakes at Nottingham but turned it down as he has been laid out for this for a while," said the Lakenheath handler.

"Of the others Dalcash Scolari could well be a lively outsider.

"He was only just touched of in his first try over this trip last Friday and has the class to make an impact."

Wallis will be hoping more big race success can head back to Imperial Kennels on Monday when Blonde Fetch will line up in the final of the 7,500 Caffreys Puppy Classic final at Nottingham.

Currently best priced at 7/1, Wallis' charge faces a tough task on paper with current ante-post joint favourite for the 2011 Greyhound Derby Droopys Oscar among his rivals.

"This is a competition we have done well over the past four years. If he could break a bit better out of the traps then he would not be without a chance," added Wallis.

Last Saturday 2009 Greyhound Derby hero Kinda Ready took another step towards becoming the only the second dog in the history of the sport to clinch the English and Irish Derby double when making it through to the quarter-finals of this year's competition.

Although currently based with Ian Seymour in Ireland, Wallis has been keeping a close eye on his star performer.

"It is going really really well for him over there although the next round will put him in a tough heat which could easily make a final line up.

"I am pleased he has done so well," said Wallis.
