Three top awards were received by Newmarket girls on Saturday evening at West Suffolk Swimming Club’s presentation night.

Eleven-year-old Chloe-Jeane Parsley, 14-year-old Molly Ollington and 16-year-old Chloe Vail scooped first-place trophies in their respective age groups, while Jordanne Sillitoe received the third-place trophy in the 13-year-olds’ category.

The girls lifted the trophies after working extremely hard over several weekends during 2012 to accumulate points across all strokes and distances in the club championships.

All four of the girls are now looking forward to the Suffolk County Championships which begin with the distance events at UEA Norwich later this month, where they hope to further improve on last year’s impressive performances.

n Newmarket Swimming Club sent 11 swimmers to Bishops Stortford Swimming Club’s first Long Course Open Meet held at Basildon on Sunday.

The Newmarket swimmers gained 29 long course personal best (pb) times as well as a bronze medal for Fred Kirk, a gold medal for Thomas Allison and two gold medals and a regional time for his 100m butterfly for Oliver Perry (from his first club City of St Albans).

Also at the meet were two swimmers from Mildenhall Swimming Club.

Harry Wagner achieved a regional time for his 200m individual medley and gained PBs in all his events with two golds and a silver and Grace Colasante who also gained pbs in all her events.

n Mildenhall Sharks Swimming Club were among four teams taking part in the opening round of the Junior Fenland League at Newmarket Leisure Centre on Saturday.

Fielding a team made of several inexperienced swimmers the Recreation Way-based club had to make do with a minor place behind eventual winners City of Peterborogh A.

Despite not troubling the winners, a number of solid swims were displayed from Holly Pryke, Jay Carter, Leon Galler, William Daunt, Emily Waller and Sash Welbourn.
