FOOTBALL: Mildenhall Town V Felixstowe

Mildenhall Town 0 Felixstowe and Walton United 0

WITH just one Ridgeons Premier League place between the sides prior to kick off, it was hardly surprising that Mildenhall Town and Felixstowe & Walton United cancelled each other out on Saturday afternoon (writes Liam Apicella).

Hosts Mildenhall looked the more likely of the two that would break the deadlock, but all in all a draw was probably a fair result.

In what proved to be an encounter that failed to flow for large parts, Mildenhall's Aaron Turner had the first chance of the game, but he turned his effort wide of goal after a good cross from James McCabe.

Mildenhall goalkeeper Josh Pope then showed great bravery to dive at the feet of Matt Mackenzie, while up the other leading goalscorer John Sands headed over Jamie Thurlbourne's deep cross from six yards.

Sands went even closer on the half hour, powerfully unleashing a drive from 25 yards which rattled Liam Jones' post before rebounding out for a throw in.

Mackenzie and Sands both had chances to open the scoring for the respective team's as the half drew to a close, but both found the keepers in stubborn form.

Turner again went close for Mildenhall in the second half, just sending a cross from Carl Murkin wide of goal.

Deep into stoppage Mildenhall substitute David Cooper sent over a teasing free-kick which skipper Dave Werthmann with a powerful header.

However, the centre back's effort rose harmlessly over Jones' crossbar to ensure the spoils were shared.
