FOOTBALL: Cambridge City announce ground share delay

CAMBRIDGE City have delayed plans to ground share with Newmarket Town FC after extending their lease at Milton Road for another season.

The Lilywhites had agreed a deal to use the Jockeys Cricket Field Road Stadium starting at the beginning of the 2010/11 campaign following the expiry of their lease at Milton Road.

But after being offered the chance to sign a one year extension on their existing contract, officials at the Zamaretto Premier League Club decided to defer the arrangement with the Ridgeons League Club until the start of the 2011/12 season.

Kevin Satchell, Cambridge City Chairman, said: "The matter was given detailed consideration by the directors, when presented with the opportunity to remain at Milton Road.

We could see that it would both help improve our current revenue streams for another year, and allow us more time to plan the move to Cricket Field Road with Newmarket Town.

"Whilst we welcome another year at Milton Road it is also important to say that we do of course recognise the close cooperation of all concerned, particularly the directors of Newmarket Town with whom we are formally committed with the ground share deal already in place now for the start of the 2011-12 season."

Kevin Grainger, Newmarket Town chairman, said: "Obviously it is a bit disappointing as we were geared up for the move but I have no issues with it and it does not make a great deal of difference.

"The contract is signed it just means they will be coming a season later."
