FOOTBALL: Benjamin wants Soham revival

SOHAM Town Rangers boss Ian Benjamin is looking for more of the same following his side's recent revival in form - which has seen them move 11 points clear of the drop zone.

On Saturday the Greens will bid to record their third win on the bounce when taking on fifth place Chesham at Julius Martin Lane following victories over Barton Rovers and Beaconsfield SYCOB.

Should the Greens record victory over the Buckinghamshire side it will be the first time this season that they have claimed three wins on the spin.

Benjamin said: "It was a good win for us on Saturday as when you look back over the season Beaconsfield have only failed to score in three games. Chesham will be hard to beat as I think they are the best attacking side in the league but Saturday's win will have given the lads a bit more confidence."

Although moving up to 14th in the league and 13 points off the play-off places, Benjamin is taking things one game at a time, insisting there will be no late charge for a play-off place.

"We are not looking that far ahead," he said.

"The aim is to finish in a more prominent position than we did last year and just get as many points on the board as we can.

The other aim is to give the younger players time to develop so that hopefully should they all stay on for next season will be that bit stronger and more experienced,"

"I have worked with some of the younger players on certain aspects and it seems to have paid off in the last two games.

"I have said before that their work and battling qualities off the ball is important and in the last two games they have really shown that," Benjamin added.

It is not just the first team who are claiming points, with the U-18s currently unbeaten in the Ridgeons Youth League and sitting in fourth place, just seven points adrift of league-leaders Fakenham Town.

Soham ended Fakenham's unbeaten run last month after 5-4 victory.

Benjamin added: "TheU-18s are having a great season and I have used several of them.

"It is good for the club because with a better quality of youth player it means we can use them rather than dipping into the transfer market."
