Connolly wibbles and wobbles in jog to gain a top-10 position

A large contingent from the Newmarket Joggers took on the challenge of the Wibbly Wobbly Log Jog five-mile trail run in Brandon Country Park on Friday.

First over the line for the club, and 10th overall, was Kevin Connolly in a time of 35 minutes 17 seconds.

Next was Justin Long in 38.32 (32nd) with first lady for the club Nicky Chapman following in 39.38 (41st).

Other results: Lisa Redman (41.46, 60th); Michelle Barnes (46.28, 103rd); Chris Aylmer (47.28, 105th); Lynda McCormack (48.09, 112th) Mary Marsh (49.25, 124th & 2nd Fv60).

n Ramsey Road Runners hosted their annual Abbey 
10k over a one-lap multi-terrain course on Sunday.

Martyn Taylor was the top Jogger, finishing in 39.45 and 24th overall.

Next home was Alex Cairns in 42.28 for 40th with Clive Purbrook the third Jogger over the line in 45.43 for 70th.

David Peck finished in 66.04 for 252nd and Isabel Vincente, the only woman representing the club, crossed the line in 67.07 for 254th.

n Members of the Junior Joggers have been out in force in recent weeks.

Jessica Norman, 12, won her 300m and 1,500m at Bottisham Village College, while Alex Swarbrick, 10, competed at the Cambridgeshire Open Development Meeting in St Ives and finished sixth in under-11 B-string 80m in a time of 13.54 then was third in the under-11 B-string 600m in 2.03.25.

Also on the podium at her school sports day was Ruby Davis, nine, who stole the show by finishing first in a quartet of events, including the 50m, 100m and 200m before going on to win the 50m hurdles
