Newmarket saw their hopes of playing at Twickenham dashed on Saturday after going down 22-6 at home to Wisbech in the third round of the RFU Junior Vase.

The hosts opened the scoring through a Mike Reeves penalty before Wisbech hit back with a converted try to take a 7-3 lead into half-time.

Wisbech further extended their lead after the break when scoring their second try of the match, which unlike their first one, failed to bring about the additional two points with the conversion missed.

Reeves reduced the deficit by slotting home another penalty but that was as good as it was to get for Newmarket with Wisbech running home a further two unconverted tries to secure the win.
