Newmarket trainers have welcomed the decision that the Rowley Mile will stage
an enhanced Dubai Future
Champions Festival in 2015.

The move, sanctioned by the British Horseracing Authority last Thursday, boosts prize money at one of NewmarketRacecourses’ showpiece event — which will take place on Friday, October 9, and Saturday, October 10, this year — to more than £2 million.

Channel 4 has agreed to broadcast races live on both days, while the further support of headline sponsor Dubai allows Jockey Club Racecourses to boost prize money by more than £500,000 compared to last year’s festival.

Newmarket trainer William Haggas said: “This is terrific news, not only for the entire racing community in Newmarket, but also for our sport in general.

“Horsemen and the racing industry will be delighted with the creation of the new Dubai Future Champions Festival, its significantly-increased prize money and position in the racing calendar. This festival helps reaffirm Newmarket’s unique place at the heart of horse racing in Britain.

Fellow town trainer Gosden added: “Newmarket Racecourse have experienced a lot of changes to its racing programme over the last four years and it’s now extremely pleasing that they have been able, in partnership with Dubai, to put together two fantastic days of racing which suits both the racing and sales calendars. This is a programme that will create a solid foundation which can be built upon for the future.”
