Newmarket’s Rowley Mile racecourse has once again received a bumper entry list for this year’s Cambridgeshire Meeting.

The Shadwell Rockfel Stakes has attracted no fewer than 77 entries, with last year’s winning trainer Jim Bolger entering six entrants into the seven-furlong Group Two race.

The 150th running of the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes is one of the highlights of the meeting, with the Group One race offering a total prize fund of £180,000.

The Coventry Stakes winner Buratino, and recent bet365 Superlative Stakes champion Birchwood, look to be the star attractions among the 56 entrants.

The Connolly’s RED MILLS Cheveley Park Stakes has seen a rise in entries compared to last year, with 61 runners initially set to race.

There is a strong European presence among the list with eight French-trained fillies entered, while America could also be represented with the Wesley Ward-trained filly Acapulco, who was impressive when winning the Queen Mary Stakes.

The six-furlong event is also worth £180,000, and was won last year by Tiggy Wiggy, whose trainer Richard Hannon has entered four fillies in the hunt for a repeat success this year.

The Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes for colts and geldings has received a huge 91 entries, with Aidan O’Brien having entered 18 horses from his team at Ballydoyle for the Group Two race.

Mark Johnston has 16 entries across the four races, with his son and assistant Charlie adding: “The two horses which I suppose are the most exciting for us are Buratino and Lumiere.

“For Buratino the obvious end of season aim is the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes. The plan is still to go for the Phoenix at the Curragh where he’ll be competing at the top level for the first time. If all goes to plan then he’ll head to Newmarket.”

The festival is set to take place on the weekend of September 25-26.
